Monday also means Ho-down at dinner, and everyone shows up in their finest (yeehawww!) boots n' jeans.
We had BBQ ribs, baked beans, sweet tea and corn. YUM Camp D. food rules!
The theme this year at camp is "We Are Strong"
James' message Monday evening during chapel was; "We Are Strong when we work together as a family." He told of the story of David and Jonathan, and their great friendship that was as close as family. Many years after Jonathoan's death, King David asksed if there was anyone of Jonathan's family still alive.
He learned that Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth....and Mephibosheth was disabled. And even though back in those days being disabled meant you were regarded as a dog-that didn't matter to King David. He loved Jonathan, so he loved Jonathan's son...no matter what.
David said, "Mephibosheth! Don't be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."
Wow, I love that story. Even though they were not blood family, they regarded each as family; they loved and protected, encouraged and showed kindness to one another. When we work together as a family....we are strong!
I love that story too! Tells you a lot about David. When the Bible says he was after God's own heart, that tells you where God is on the matter as well. He must be an advocate for the disabled and for adoption, wouldn't you say? :)
